What's your commute like?

I sometimes wonder if I've grown old and boring trundling round in my 1.6 Focus. I went (comparatively speaking) the fun way to work this morning with very light traffic and it was still unbelievably dull due to the nature of the roads. Unless you happen to be driving an Aston Martin Rapide full of Page 3 girls and squirty cream there's only so much fun you can have during a suburban commute. It simply wouldn't be worth using a fun car on this route.

I know this isn't the case for everyone. I vaguely remember having a commute consisting of 20 miles of prime Westcountry B-roads myself and I just know some lucky git is going to pop up saying he commutes along the Black Mountain Road or something. So go on, make me jealous or commiserate with me... What's your commute like?

Mine is dull but short. However, there are some pretty reasonable roads around the area so it tends to turn into longer but interesting on most days.

How arduous, fortunately for me there's no decorators ladder on the way from my bedroom to the study

I sometimes work at 2 other offices. One an easy 5 minute drive/15 minute cycle, the other an easy 20 minute drive.

Makes up for all the years of 1 hour long commutes into London on trains/tubes etc. Don't miss it at all.

Commuting, at the end of the day, is MY time that's being eaten up so I want to minimise it all I can.

Either A1/M18 or just M18, both two lane with 300 cars in lane 2 and a couple of trucks at the front, sometimes joing the lane 1 undertakers if i get really bored, bit of twisty at each end though so not all bad, plus you get a 2 mile blast when the truck pulls in if your at the front of the 300 car queue.

I hate commuting now, looking for a job I can cycle to so i can make driving something i do for fun again....

Same here most of the time. I've got an ear problem at the moment that means I can't tell when I'm about to be carved up by a homicidal van or minicab driver though, so I''ve been back behind the wheel this week.

The problem for me is I'm on the edge of London. If I head away from town the roads get better the further you go. Which is nice. Except my commute takes me in the opposite direction where it gets rapidly less interesting. Being on the outskirts it's rarely city-centre style grid lock, but it's just utterly boring 25mph procession. Even with no other cars around you couldn't misbehave anywhere because it's suburban streets with pavements next to them.

I keep wanting a more interesting daily driver. Then I realise the most interesting parts of my current commute are the stereo and the climate control. Bleh.

Swiss public transport is just cheating though. You don't experience the pain and misery of British Rail that way!

Normal commute, circa 3 miles to the station. No hoon in morning, but sometimes longer route home and country lanes!!!

On occasion client visits circa 200 mile round trip, dual carriage way, but also some good cross country sections.

Mine is just 5 minutes of traffic.. Onto A3.. 10 minutes of A3 then 1 round-a-bout and I'm at work.

Very boring.

My commute involves a 5 minute walk at the minute, so no driving necessary. Have had some pretty fun commutes in the past though, I used to work near Calver in the Peak District, commuting there from Chesterfield gave some entertaining routes

It's a 16 mile bike ride, a jolly in the Griff or a short walk from the lounge for me

I actually ventured out in the rush hour recently, it was shocking!

At the moment due to the school holidays my commute is great, im averaging 12-15min for my drive compared to 30-40min during term time. Traffic is free flowing and when i get out onto the NSL sections its a fine way of having a bit of fun prior to work.

The first 8 miles of my commute are fantastic, challenging roads around where I grew up, I know them like the back of my hand and take great joy in driving them well. Its the 17 miles of NSL drudgery that follows that really gets me.

Still at least the traffic flows well and I'm rarely held up, my idea of hell would be a stop-start style commute.

3 minutes to A19, 25 minutes drive south. Then 5 mins into centre of 'Boro.
28 miles door to door, in under 35 mins. Boring but bearable.

Very short for me at the mo. I frequently take one of the 'longer ways home' which involve country roads, but as it's rush hour and the West Mids there's not a lot of opportunity for hoonage.

Still...beats being stuck on the M6 by miles!
