Saw this site advertised on TV last night - seems to be a place where manufacturers (mostly Chinese of course) advertise their wares, a sort of Costo V's eBay.
You can literally buy anything you want Cars/Lorries/Combine Harvesters/TVs/Radios/Staple guns etc (in bulk) and I guess sell it in your shop/eBay etc.
Check out the cars http://www.alibaba.com/catalogs/cid/100002872/New_...
And the weirdest motorcycle ever! http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/204118678/motorc...

www.alibaba.com

I have no affiliation with the site at all...just interesting to find out where people obviously obtain all this weird incredibly cheap Chinese import stuff from.

It's jam packed with fake Chinese companies trying to rip people off.

Indeed. For every 1 genuine manufacturer supplying reasonable quality product on there you get about 1000 'suppliers' who will cheerfully pocket your money and ship you trash you'll throw away as soon as you unpack it.

It's still very, very difficult to track down the actual manufacturers and even if you do, be prepared for a lot of quality issues and exaggerated claims.

It's the way they do business over there.

Alibaba has been around for years. I was using it back in 2003 whilst living in China.

Was great buying loads of sample stuff, like full suspension/disc brakes mountain bikes for £20, and riding them round till they (inevitably) broke.

Had a 26" chrome wheel with a glass top for a table, and a 1:6 scale Hummer for zooming round the flat when I got bored.

This looks quite fun although it is a blatant rip off of a wrangler...

I'm guessing the '2010 Yamaha Racing Motorcycles,at low price' are all fakes then wink
Would these get seized in customs for being counterfeit goods?

There is a bit of a myth about all that. The reality is that there is so much stuff being imported, especially from China, that Customs can't examine all of it and even if they did, it's not their job to confiscate counterfeit goods. That would be the role of DTI officers working with them and like big drugs busts it tends to happen because of tip-offs and long term criminal investigations rather than random inspections.

TBH all H M Customs and Excise are really interested in is collecting their duty and taxes.

It's also very difficult to tell what is 'counterfeit'. A lot of genuine brands are made in China anyway and the cheap rip-offs could even come out of the same factories as the genuine product.

It's basically a minefield.

That looks quite good actually, with those nobbly tyres and being lightweight it would probably be quite capable too...
