Hey, I'm new to the land rover scene and looking for some advice.

I'm looking to buy a 2004 Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue.

The only problem is the steering wheel had a slight vibration when cruising at around 40-50. I didn't get a chance to see if I could drive through it as it was only a short stretch of road.

I've just been round my friends and test drove his to compare and his was smooth.

All the wheels / tires looked in good condition so there was no obvious cause.

I know it could be as simple as a wheel needing to be rebalanced, but I'm curious to know if there is any known problems that may cause this.

Also if I go back to look at it again what else should I look for/at?

Thanks for the help, it will be much appreciated!

There are no RR issues that can cause wheel vibration other than balancing that I'm aware of; perhaps a weight has fallen off, or perhaps the car has been sitting still for ages and the tyres have gone out of true?

If you like the car otherwise, how about offering to pay for a re-balance at a local tyre place and taking it there with the current owner. If it fixes it you'll be happy, if it doesn't, it will only have cost you a few beer tokens.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

What other known problems do the L322 Range Rovers have that I could check when i go to look at it again?

Thanks

I have had a small vibration through the steering which has become steadily worse over time, wheels re-balanced, still there. Turns out my offside front caliper seals are gone and the caliper is jamming on every now & again, causing a severe shimmy to the point of being undriveable. Waiting on new seal kit coming which will resolve the issue.

You need to have a gander on here as well, various vibration issues noted: http://www.rangerovers.net/rrmkiiiremedies.html

Just found out this is exactly the same as what is happening on mine, but its the nearside front caliper. Do you know where i can get my hands on a caliper seal kit? I do not want to pay dealer prices for them.

Also if anyone could tell me any good websites for spare parts as i'm new to the Land Rover scene.

Thanks in advance.

Main dealer ok for price, should be around £15 Inc. Vat. Easy fix, just make sure the piston is free of crud / corrosion , mine still ok so fingers crossed!

I had the caliper problem and it was fixed, but then another problem arose shortly after.
When driving the car it made a whooshing noise that sped up as the car went faster, so obviously a wheel problem somewhere.
The problem this time was "feathering" of the tyres. Each corner was swapped around front to back ie front left swapped with rear right, and front right with rear left, this made for a smoother and quieter ride...job done
After that (and numerous other abnormalities) the gearbox started playing up, as it needed an oil change, and was a replacement job so I quickly got rid, and now have a 2010 Defender 110, a different animal but the family and I love it!
