2 lane motorways - an observation

In the last few weeks I have driven 2000 miles in France and 600 miles through the UK

A lot of the French autoroutes used had 2 lanes
Few of the UK ones did

So statistically I must have been unlucky to have to brake suddenly so many times in Blighty when in a queue of cars waiting to overtake one HGV overtaking another at V+2mph (where v= the speed of the HGV being overtaken) a car presumably carrying human organs for transplant or some other vital cargo undertakes the whole lot of cars politely waiting for HGV2 to complete his manoeuvre and pull in causing much mashing of brakes and bunching of traffic

This just doesnt happen in Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey Country

Yes, try the peripherique around Paris, They are CRAZY!
The motorways away from the cities carry nothing like the amount of traffic the UK ones do.

Yep, the perepherique is just like Britain unfortunately.

Everywhere else in France exhibits superb lane discipline. Cars only pull out to overtake slower traffic JUST before they need to, not 2 miles in advance.

Best of all though. FASTER traffic knows the reason it is faster is because of this good lane discipline. Therefore FASTER traffic allows SLOWER traffic into lane 2. ANTICPATES it even!

Oh, and you can even FLASH your headlights at slower traffic to politely ask them to return to the correct lane WITHOUT them taking offence.

The Brits are, on average, *rubbish*, compared to the
rest of Europe, at motorways,.

Motorways still not on the UK driving test, even though
the rest of Europe seem to manage it.

This. Im always amazed at the run down to le mans, how relaxed it is, how quiet roads like the A28 are its a sheer joy to drive on their roads, and their toll costs are very reasonable too compared to the likes of the M6 toll!!
