Boss has made me ill - where do I stand - legal perspective?
Discussion
Get ready for a group of answers split down the middle from a bunch of hippy leftie do-gooders giving you a load of duff advice about how you could win millions, closely followed by a similar amount of right-wing, hardcore replies calling you a skiver.
My take is that each situation is different, if you believe this strongly then take proper professional legal advice instead of asking a load of plumbers / IT contractors etc.
Oh and the following comments are a bit contradictory "Boss has made me ill...." and "potentially life threatening in the long term" - are you saying he's poisoned you? Because you sound like a sales rep (no doubt you've got a more glamourous title like Regional Account Development Business Director)
"Protected by the DDA" - b
ks, skiver. What you mean is that your illness may be covered under the DDA and your employer may or may not need to make some reasonable adjustments to your working environment.
"May not be fit to return to work" again looking for an early pension are we?
As for the depression bit, alongide everything else - MTFU
You guessed correctly I'm a right-wing hardcore type.

I notice you're a geordie as well. That must be tough, they're all so hard normally (except that moat loser).
It is easy for us to snipe from a distance, not knowing the full story. However, I've suffered enormous stress due to work. I've been I'll, I even passed out once on the tube - that was embarrassing. But nobody is owed a living, work is not for life. I took an hour off and cracked on when I passed out.
Good luck though.

Genuine depression (Clinical Depression) usually comes from within. In other words, exterior forces don't cause it - although they may exacerbate the condition.
If you want to claim that your boss made you depressed, then you will be on a sticky wicket trying to claim that you have a genuine deopressive illness.
On the other hand, if you can prove you really do have a genuinely depressive illness then you may, by default, be letting your boss off the hook.
You're not called Corporal Klinger by any chance?

Not true, there are two types of clinical depression, exogenous (external cause) and endogenous (internal cause). Both are still clinical depression. One will in all likelihood involve relapses throughout life, the other is far more likely to be a single episode. Just because clinical depression was precipitated by work stress doesn't make it malingering. If you want to claim that your boss made you depressed, then you will be on a sticky wicket trying to claim that you have a genuine deopressive illness.
