Carbon frame repair advice

Hi All

I have managed to damage the top tube on my Carbon frame.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on any company that offers frame repair?

or advice to offer?

I have seen some Carbon repair kits - is it worth trying a DIY repair?

They are repairable, but the top tube is not the ideal place to have damage. From what I have seem they put a patch over the top, it doesn't sit flush to the frame so looks naff to me.

Dependant on how much you want to spend there are 2 types of repair for bikes.

The first is to take the rough off and rebond the split/damage then bond a section of carbon over the top, overlapping the damaged area....it can be a very strong repair but unless made to look like an accent piece then could look naff dependant on your viewpoint.

The damaged area could be opened up and taken back to reveal the original carbon layers-this is staggered so each layer is a bit further out...then strengthened internally and the layers rebuilt which should lead to an invisible repair. This is a far more costly solution though as more materials and more involved, therefore more time to do.

Does the manufacturer offer a crash replacement policy? I don't think I'd be happy riding a repaired frame but obviously without pics of the damage it's hard to say.

I have just got my frame back from Darren at Carbon frame repairs.

I'll post some before and after pictures later, but I cannot recommend Darren highly enough. Good communication throughout the process, high quality work and reasonable pricing.

The top tube repair is almost invisible, and would be if I decided to have the stickers replaced.

I was not looking forward to buying a new frame, and now I don't have to !
