Hi

Well I got home a couple of hours ago with my new toy Wayne's old 450 SEAC.

A great car, I have never enjoyed such a drive home!

Only problem is it should come with a Public Health Warning and ear defenders.

Think it should win the loudest wedge competition at next year's BBWF!

I must say thank you to Wayne for agreeing to sell it to me!

It's now in a good home next to the first production 350i, the first series 3 280i O! and of course my 4.5 Cerby.

A man must have his toy's !!!!!!!

Andy.

Steve

Taimar has been sold, as I didn't have the time or the money to do a full rebuild as well as buy the SEAC!

Ah , didn't realise that , nice car though . As far as noise levels are concerned my seac is relatively quiet , 108db's at 4000rpm , but the quality of the sound is to die for ! In fact its difficult not to just stand there listening to it for hours !

That's the point about V8 Wedges - such a lovely sound. Why do so many new V8 performance cars now have to sound like American V8s - we always produced such sweet sounding engines. Now Jag, MBenz et al seem to want to manufacture cars that have that 'bang every lamp post' hard-edged sound.

Some burblers do sound quite good though - but what happened to that sweet mellow melliflous tone - rather like racing engines?

Maybe I'm just an old fashioned fuddy duddy.

Here's a nice little video comparing two exhaust manifold designs and the complete contrasting sound:

Engines in the De Tomaso Pantera is a Ford 351ci (5.8 litre) OHV V8.

Listen to the car that passes around 2min 12sec:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&v...

Stock manifold is a 4 into 1, that car above is a 180 degree manifold design.

I think one would have trouble finding room in a wedge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUgXkVzGTj0

Of course the best ever IMO sounding 6 litre RV8 was in Steve Green's tina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi8-Q3mCJ14&NR=...

Vid does not do it justice. You had to be there.

The RV8 sounded better running 7.9 second quarters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1SYJmGd89Y&fea...

That 180 system - actually just looks like they have built in a cross over pipe system .. as most V8 benefit from a crosss over at some point in the system.

It did sound great .. for some reason reminded me of my bike (White KH500 is my bike ) .. take a listen

Oh - seen Steve Green many times .. even built a V8 Mk1 Cortina myself many years ago.

6Ltr litre RV8 is a Wildcat .. think SG works for ICE eng. who probably build the lump ..
