Hi all, new to this forum & know nothing about photography. I have tried the "search" but it sreems to be down.
I expect this has been asked before.
My camera is a Nikon of some sort, when I press the button to take a photo....1/2 a second later, the camera takes a pic.
I don't want this to happen.
What should I buy. Is this SLR territory, or is there a compact available without shutter delay
Please don't get all technical, I won't understand you
The only thing I know about SLR is that it stands for single lense......er.....reflex?
"depends on your budget".... Photography isn't a hobby so am not interested in spending shed loads of money....although perhaps this is a requirement to eliminate shutter delay
Thanks...a numpty

Olympus FE45 = 1.93 seconds
That'd work well at Silversone

To the OP. Compacts suffer from shutter lag. SLRs are much faster - but they are more bulky to carry around. The expensive ones are very fast (mine takes 11 frames a second - the slowest of the camers in the list above would take 85 seconds to capture 11 frames!)... but mine weighs more than a small family hatchback. Hi Chris
This could be caused by a couple of problems.
1. Focusing - your camera may not be very quick at focusing which is not unusual in compact cameras. I presume that you are taking some sort of action shot which is why the shutter delay is a problem. If your camera supports it you could switch to manual focus and pre-focus on a spot then follow the action until it reaches you prefocused spot and take the picture then.
2. It could be inherently slow in which case you will have to change it to remove the problem.
