what would u recommend for under 30k

Wont be for a while,but wondering what you'd recommend for 30 k and under,no more !..
seen a lhd 996 51,000 miles red for 29,995 , any of you know where theres any more 996 similarly priced ?
also, (im not terribly clued up on porsche,been gearing towards a cerbera but the wife coudnt reach the pedals
) , what spec/year of 993 would you suggest ? , help / links appreciated , prefer a wide body cause then i'd have 2 of em ;Þ (oooohhhh,if the wife seen this... ) ,so cheapest 996 i can find,or a slightly better spec 993.... ???

I have the same budget as you and am looking at the moment. I have narrowed it down to the following (most exciting at top going down to most sensible):
ENTHUSIAST
964 RS from about 19.5k LHD
965 Turbo 2 3.6 from between 22k LHD and 44k RHD
993 C4S/C2S from about 26k LHD upwards, bit rare and maybe a bit tarty
993 C2/C4 from about 19.5k LHD, preferably a manual C2 coupe, although targa appeals
996 C2 from about 29k LHD - v cheap to run but has the 911 lost something now it's grown up?
PRACTICALITY

Do you really need the rear seats? For that money you could get quite a late Boxster. Possibly an 'S'. Not the fastest thing in the world (my 'S' is quick enough for me at the moment...) but the handling is great, brakes are great, car is .... great.

The "some" in this case mostly being 911 drivers, in my experience. Mostly 911 owners who natter in here
I've only had compliments when I've been allowed to drive it into work, oh and the odd "you lucky b&**er". My wife also has the largest ahem, "member" within her team where she works now, despite being the only woman.
Believe me, if I could afford a 911, I'd have either a 993 or 996. Both are beautiful cars in my eyes.
And Don, don't you pen the reply "...but Greg, if you sold that Merc barge, .....yada yada yada"
As the Boxster posse pointed out, it has been unfairly dismissed - a LHD Boxster S for under 30k would be a great car.
PS If you go for a 993, RHD has its obvious benefits, and go as late as possible - varioram model changeover year was 95/96 I think. C4S looks great but apparently not such a great driver's car as a standard C2.

Once again (and probably cos we discussed it for about three hours last night) have to agree with Domster's selection.
Paul - disagree with the LHD bit, I've had them for 4 years now (6 different Porsches!) and have never found the obvious probs to be a pain. Overtaking is fine and how often do you park in a ticket operated car park? Even when you do it gives you a great excuse to get out your car, smile at the guy behind who is thinking "who's the git in that lovely motor", and remember you saved 30% on the bloke with the RHD one who got in his parking space 25 seconds quicker than you.....
UV - If you're out there, did you buy those wheels from Ray in the end, not sure if you said? My 993's being serviced there today and wanted to 'negotiate' soem wheels myself. He's likely to appreciate me more if he knows I'm pointing others towards him for spending their hard earnt.
All - Wouldn't discount the Boxster at all, we pious 911 boyz may snigger but they're still a bloody great car.

My neighbour has this exact spec car ! And he's selling it. Reason ? A rather nice red 944S turned up on his drive whilst we were on holiday.....
You're right tho'...the trim is er, interesting !
