How long does it take to transfer a no plate?

Just wondered whether anyone had recent experience of transferring a private numberplate?

Im in the middle of buying a new car and just waiting for the plate transfer to complete so I can pick it up, frustratingly.

The V5's, MOT's and plate transfer form went to a DVLA centre on Tuesday last week (17th) and I'm just wondering when I might expect to receive the new tax disc(s) so I can crack on with picking up the new toy!

Anyone done this lately, and how long did it take?

The simple version is 2-3 weeks depending on which office is dealing with the transfer

The quick way is to go to a DVLA local office with the new reg on a certificate, along with your mot and V5. They can change it there and then, put the new plates on your car and way-hey. Can be done in half an hour.

The new reg is on my old car though, so to do that I'd have to put it on retention first presumably?

What I've actually done is a simple plate transfer from current car to the one I'm buying.

Er No. It used to be like this and I went to the local DVLA a week last friday with all the paperwork expecting it to be done there and then. But they've changed and it all gets sent off. I got the adjusted tax discs, adjusted MOTs and the V948 certificates by post the following Wednesday. I'm still waiting for the adjusted log books.

So basically four working days to get the tax discs? Bit of luck I might get mine tomorrow then.

This. I did exactly the same. I was well pissed off as I queued for an hour to find this out. Got the replacement tax disc within a week; however the new V5 and the retention certificate took about 5 weeks to come through. Quite why, I don't know as a V5 for a straight buy seems to come through in a week or so.
