Mountain biking near Brighton

Not sure if this has been asked before, couldn't seem to find the right words in search.
I have just come back from les Arcs in France, and did a guided tour "technical descent"
It was brilliant using proper bikes with loads of suspension travel etc.
One of the guides was using a Specialised Enduro bike which I liked the look of.
The question is can I create that style of riding on the Sussex downs or anywhere nearish Brighton, with very steep technical stuff?
Or do I need to move to the Alps?

the south downs have some good trails, there is a dedicated route around friston forest too but nothing like the alps. http://www.mtbdiary.co.uk/routes/ff250206.asp even the furthest reaches of north wales are achievable from brighton for a weekend riding
the Enduro is a good bike but there are bikes far more better suited to the majority of UK trails in my personal opinion.
