Insuring a young driver
Discussion
Hi all, just looking for some advice for one of my rellies. Their son is about to learn to drive and they'd like to get him insured on one of their cars/buy an older car for about 1k and insure him on that.
All the quotes i've found for the insurance though are rediculous; over 3k for 3rd party only on a W-reg 1.1Pug 106.

Do any of you know of a good insurance company that aren't going to cost the earth?

Young drivers don't get cheap insurance, believe me I'm one and i now know what rape feels like.
Second that. But then again, i don't mind too much, as i know of 5 people who were in my year at school, who have died in fatal accidents. So i can see why insurers are so reluctant to insure young people.
(and yes they were all driving like t
ts, it was there own fault, but still not a nice thing to have happen)When I started driving my first policy was £2k fully comp on a 1.4 Rover. That was over 5 years ago and even it that (relatively) short time prices have got way more expensive.
Unfortunately he'll just have to look for the best price he can, then bend over. And keep bending over till they hit 21.

it'd be easier if they just admitted it was for them too.... it's amazing how many people are just axsing on behalf of a friend, that friend being middle aged or older - yet they write like an inbred half-witted teenager....
errr.. it's not for me... considering i'm 28 with 11yr no claims and no points my insurance is relatively cheap.
i'm doing the donkeywork cos my cousin doesn't have internet.
Tonker if you haven't got anything to contribute, why bother wasting your time?

when i got my CTR i found that adding my wife onto the policy brought it down loads; apparently this means that you won't be driving the car as often so not as likely to crash...
But getting married to reduce an insurance premium is a bit extreme, particularly if this lad is only 17 or 18. when i got my CTR i found that adding my wife onto the policy brought it down loads; apparently this means that you won't be driving the car as often so not as likely to crash...

Try a company called collingwood who insure learners on there own for about £80-90 pm as long as he has a qualified driver with him then he will be covered and it doesnt affect the owners own policy they are seperate.
I used it for my son when I was teaching him to drive ended up getting cover for 11months fully comp worked out about £600 ish once he passes his test then he has to start fighting the insurance companies for onsurance but at least this will get him through to test. Hope this helps.
