BTW, why does everyone think roads in continental Europe are so much better than the UK - I live in Munich and there are some roads here in the city that are far worse than I've encountered in Blighty, and the ubiquitous roadworks incredibly badly managed. The motorway to the airport has had roadworks for 4 years now, with a section wherein the lanes are so narrow that vans have to striddle two lanes and when it rains, it's like driving down a swimming-pool slide.
But I guess you have the grass-is-greener syndrome.
