RHODRI Morgan last night gave his personal backing to under-fire North Wales Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom.

The First Minister (pictured above) said the outspoken police chief should be judged on his record in tackling crime.

Speaking to the Daily Post on the eve of the Welsh Labour conference in Llandudno, Mr Morgan said North Wales' top cop had a mind "not driven along conventional tram lines".

He added: "In a profession dominated by Roundheads, you must always make room for a Cavalier.

"And Richard Brunstrom is that Cavalier - a gadfly able to stir up all kinds of strong feelings.

I have reason to believe that someone has already written to King Rhodri and his polical opponents pointing out that under Brunstrom's policies, road deaths in North Wales are up 13%, Dyfed Powys up by 38% and in Rhodri's back yard, South Wales they are up by 34%.

Seems Rhodri doesn't know what is happening in his own kingdom. Or does he?

No doubt his e-mail manager will see the mails and perhaps be afraid to tell Rhodri that he is going to look such a prat when these figures are finally made widely known. I have written to two newspapers who have both failed to publish the letters.

Less than 25% of Taffies (South Wales) and Gogs ( North Wales) voted for an Assembly. The rest either voted against or didn't vote at all. BIG mistake.
