Howdy folks,

I recently ordered a Picaone Ripcase External CDRW but cancelled it when I read further reviews on Amazon. It seems some people had their PC crash when the software was installed on Windows 98.

I am no techie and could not risk that happening so now seek some advice on which is the best (safest) external drive to get which will work with Windows 98 Second Edition with Word 2000 installed. ( Word was mentioned in the reviews as crashing when the CD software was installed.)

I am now looking at a Freecom external drive but cannot find any reviews. I need the drive to back up my stuff in the event of my Dell PC falling over.....

Cheers

Tafia,

I bought a Freecom Classic last year. Used it a few times to burn CDs with some photos. I tried to use if yesterday and neither of my laptops see it now, although I know their USB ports are OK.

I can't recommend I'm afraid.

Good luck in choosing another.

I've got a Freecom Classic. Works fine. Once it wouldn't start up, but it turned out that the USB hub had died.

Thanks folks.

Looks as if I may be out of luck with external CD RW drives.

Get your large pole out and practice not touching freecom kit with it.

LaCie are usually rather good.
