Short/Quick shift gear levers

I hope that someone here can help:

I've got a BMW E36 325i track car and in my quest for go-faster bits (uprated suspension, brakes etc) I keep coming across these gear lever replacements. Does anybody have one, are they worth £30? Do they actually reduce the throw angle on gear changes or would a hacksaw on the original stick do the same job?
