Servicing - Would this bother you?
Discussion
I've seen a car I really like, but the servicing is less than perfect.
It's an E90 3-series, so I'm guessing it's on Condition-Based Servicing (CBS).
It had a BMW service 2 years after it was bought, and then another one 2.5 years later at an Indy.
I think 2 years is long as it is, but 2.5 means it has no full service history.
Would that bother you?

Was a service skipped or was it one of those cases where it's taken in for a service but they key/OBC reports no service necessary?
I'm old school and like to see at least an annual stamp in the book but I gather these modern cars decide for themselves whether a service is due.
I just checked and apparently it's still every 2 years regardless. Shame, as the car is nice otherwise.I'm old school and like to see at least an annual stamp in the book but I gather these modern cars decide for themselves whether a service is due.
It had a service at 2 years and 4.5 years, so missed it's second service by at least 6 months.
As mentioned the 3 series isn't exactly rare but it wouldn't be a deal breaker if the car was priced right and the rest of the history tied back to the car being well looked after (decent tyres, receipts etc)
If your looking at low mileage cars that are fully serviced to spec, they are only going to be serviced every 2 years, so what’s 6 months in the grand scheme of things. It will be even less if you keep if for a few years.
If I remember right the 2 year servicing is only for aircon and brake fluid, I’m not sure if they demand you change the oil anyway (I’ve found myself telling BMW to change my oil anyway). I wouldn’t want to pay top money and it does suggest that the car has previously been owned by a non-enthusiast but if your keeping it a while, its on for good money and its local you could probably do a lot worse.

I just had a look and it's actually 4 months more, so not huge in the grand scheme of things. Very much not owned by an enthusiast and I think it's more the case that people just buy cars and don't think about simple things like service history. Seems honest enough on the phone, even telling me about needing a new steering rack due to hitting a curb at some pace.
What I may do is tell them it hasn't been serviced to spec and see if there's any wiggle room with the price. If I can get it a lot cheaper it may be worthwhile.
