Esprit for me because it's a childhood dream and there are other TVR's I'd prefer over a Cerb.

difficult choice for me as i love the look of both cars, but i've always had a soft spot for the esprit V8. its a fairly uneducated choice tbh as i've not driven either model.

I'm a Cerb obviously but have driven a V8 Esprit which was fantastic...but the V8 Esprit didn't get a good write up in the Auotcar esprit buyers guide.

That's because Autocar always go to a certain specialsit who has never had a good word to say about the V8s. It's something of a humourous groan in Esprit owner's circles to read that he's been quoted dissing the V8 engine...again! It's a shame Autocar don't research further afield than Cropley's favourite Lotus specialist for information regarding V8 ownership.

Well both, but if pushed, I think I would go for the Esprit. But that is only because I really like the wedgieness of it at the moment and have also been having unholy thoughts about them (who needs a house right).

Although the TVR is just so brutal, and slightly more practical, and also a really nice shape. I like the way the TVR squats down over its rear wheels....

But then the interior of the Lotus is just so fantastically late 70's it is awesome, but then the interior of the TVR is also ace.

I think I would go for the Esprit, they seem to be a bit rarer, and you can pretend to be James bond in it as well. Also the shape is awesome. And if you squint they can look a little bit like a lambo.

Would love to actually have to make this choice legitimately myself!

I went through this just over two years ago.

I went for the 4.5 Cerbera and still love it!

During my research I found :-
The V8 Lotus engine had a terrible reputation for blowing up!
YES worse than the TVR Myth about the AJPV8, which is just a myth in the case of the 4.5.
Also a Lotus is more expensive to get repaired and serviced acording to my research!
Many said the Esprit is small inside, whereas the Cerbera will easily fit 6' 6" people!
They do hold their value well though!

I looked very seriously at an Esprit V8 Turbo that had had the "MOD" where the V is welded up with strenghening plates!
Which meant to me that all the others were suspect to cracking in the VEE and that irrational thought put me off to be honest.

The Esprit is such a Beautiful car that I could still be tempted, but the Cerbera is even better looking - IMHO of course.

I've had a Scuby Turbo and hated the lag, so the NA Cerbera V8 engine based on a racing design won me over.

If your really agonising over which of these these two cars to get?
Your very lucky which ever one you choose!

on the Lotus V8 exploding.......I gather this is not a huge worry post 98/99 and that its all down to sealant issues.....most likely not an issue now

The Esprit seems very dated next to the Cerb. I had the use of a 2.2 Esprit turbo for a while. Didn't get on with it one bit.

Ermmm...what? I am truly puzzled by what you've just written. It's almost as if someone has fed you a load of old bull and you've believed every single word. Especially the welded V story. Never heard of that one before. Do you mind if I use it at the next meet I go to?
