M3 E46 - Falken 452's v Verdestein Ultrac Sessanta's
Discussion
Hi,
so the time has come to shell out for new tyres (again)
I've read some very good reviews for the Verdestein's, but have had FK452's on the M for the last two changes
Can I have personal experience opinions on the above please?
(to be clear NOT interested in the "buy decent tyres, get the Michelins/Contis on mate" type comments, only interested in comments relating to the Verdestein and Falkens!)

I was looking to replace my tyres on my Z4M.
Looked at:
Vred's
Toyos
Falkens
Mich PS2's
Goodyear Asyms
Went for Falkens as I was taken out in a friends CSL that had these on and he knows how to drive.
The only negative is the soft compound but the handling is very very good compared to the OEM conti's I had on previously.

Got the Verdestein Ultrac Sessanta's on mine (in fact just put a set of new ones on the front to match those already on the rear when I purchased the car). Been very impressed indeed and so much so that i'm gonna get a set of spare rears to sit in the garage for when they need replacing at some point.
Full beans in first with traction off (as is best
) on a dry road and it hooks up and goes with little fuss. Grip also seems good and sure footed in the wet and I use my car pretty much every day.
Can't comment on other tyres for the M3 as only had mine for a few months but no complaints from me and I normally have G/yr F1's on previous hacks (and still do in fact on the main toy).

Yes mate, stopped doing Vreds apparently?
Really? I had heard things have changed since they were bought out(?). There was a thread in TV&S forum on local tyre places. Will dig that out for you. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

No experience of the Falkens but have run my M3CS on Vredesteins for the past couple of years and have been very pleased with them; no obvious downsides compared to the PS2's that were on the car originally but a lot cheaper!
Normally get them from Camskill but just needed a new pair of rears and they couldn't (or wouldn't!) match the price quoted by Tyremen (which was £339 delivered for the pair). Therefore ordered from Tyremen yesterday afternoon and they arrived at lunchtime today so no complaints about the service from them! Reckon a full set (225/40 for the fronts, 255/35 for the rears) would have cost £650 delivered but you've obviously got fitting on top of that (so probably £700 all in unless you know a friendly local tyre fitter!).

Ive recently gone for a set of Kumho Ecsta Sport's based on the recommendation of both the forum and m3cutters. They are very reasonably priced and have performed extremely well under a number of spirited driving sessions. A huge saving made over my previous Michelin pilots (almost £500!)

Keep a close eye on inner edge wear - some people have had them wear down to the wires on the inside edges with plenty of tread elsewhere.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
