Yet another Which Car??? 318d ES or A4 2.0 Tdi SE

Hi,
Hope some of peeps could perhaps ofer some advice.
A friend has just started a new job with a large construction company and will be given a choice of company car for the first time. As the title suggests it's between a BMW 318d ES or a A4 2.0 Tdi SE.
As my knowledge and experience of this type of car is limited, I ask if anyone has experience or advice on which would be the better choice.
My first thoughts are BMW: Slightly quicker 0-60mph, not sure on in-gear performance; Better drive/more fun (RWD vs FWD. BMW steering is always decent too IME); nice place to be inside, but a pretty ugly car without the M-Sport add ons; not brilliantly specc'd as standard (iPod con, bluetooth, etc are all extras).
A4: Not as much fun; nice interior; better specc'd than the BMW; standard looks are nicer IMO; Audi dynamics aren't supposed to be up to BMW levels; Winter driving in Scotland would probably be easier with FWD; Worst of all there is also the dreaded......."imagine"
He's not really a 'spirited' driver and is probably what I'd describe as average in what he looks for in a car i.e. wants a decent all rounder in looks, drive, equipment etc. Also, I believe Tax/CO2 band is now a consideration with company drivers
