I'm thinking of a 7 day break at the beginning of October. We'd usually have a holiday with some walking or similar to keep us occupied during the days and to get some exercise but Mrs Torque has crooked an ankle, so more than a few miles is probably out. Because of that we'll have to have a less active week. I've found a couple of decent looking small hotels in Funchal, but is there enough to keep us occupied for a few days, 'cos we don't want to just lie by a pool for a week? We'd be on B&B so hopfully the restaurants are OK ?

It's lovely... Pretty quiet (I felt like the youngest person there when I went a couple of years ago at the age of 31!) but very relaxing and there's enough to see and do - it kept me entertained for a week, despite being a party animal at heart!... Funchal sounds like the place to be in your circumstances, as there's obviously more to do in terms of museums, shops etc. and you can easily hop on a bus and visit anywhere on the island - or even just stay on a bus and enjoy the scenery if walking becomes too much!

The restaurants in Funchal are wonderful (they made the holiday in a lot of ways) and very reasonably priced, particularly if you like Seafood!

Yes.

It's a nice place for a relaxing week.

Quite a few good restaurants.

I don't know if Tokos is still in business, however it's worth a visit to experience the brilliant, but slightly eccentric owner/chef as well as the food.
