What M car do you own?

I would definitely reinstate the warranty if your car is sub 60k.

I think the real question is, has any claims made on the extended warranty exceeded the cost of it!?

Just had my extension letter come through for my 3yr old Z4mc and was surprised at how much it was so am currently thinking if its worth it...!!

I also see from the Evo mag this month that BMW built 85,000 E46 M3's so with the Z4m's that is over 90,000 s54 engines of which I have only heard a few having major issues...

I bet I eat my words now in the next 12 months and my engine goes bang... getmecoat

I had a new engine in the Z4MC after 25,000 miles odd under warranty, I saw the bill too £14,000!! Personally I would never drive an M car without BMW warranty. It`s a false economy. I have an M6 now with 2 yrs of warranty. Peace of mind is a lovely thing!

Brilliant when you can't even spell 'their' correctly.
...or indeed 'no one'.

£500 to £1000 depending on level of cover and excess.

Indeed, but the basic cover is drivetrain only with a max claim of £5k...

I made a claim about 12 weeks ago, I'm still claiming and they're still fixing.

It's worth every penny, but beware, they won't cover any fault finding, and won't pay for any parts that weren't broken. Sounds acceptable right, until the dealer you take it to fits a few parts hoping to solve an issue, it doesn't and you have the bill for em!

Two oxygen sensors including a weeks diagnostic work on a BMW PUMA investigation and replaced cracked rear springs.

Overall got my 800 quid back for the current year, renewal on 3/9 guess I'll keep monthly premiums going.

I have monthly cover (£80) on my E39 M5. 109k so engine only covered but has had new VANOS amongst lots of other small things so I'm happy that its worth it.

It all depends on the kind of relationship you have with your main dealer.

If they are a stubborn bunch who insist of being pedantic about all claims and charging for the most pathetic diagnosis work, then your view of the warranty will be masked and your view will be that it is not worth it.

I have a decent relationship with a couple of main dealers and they know that I am not an idiot and when I bring my car in, I know roughly what the issue may be.

Over the last few years the extended or AUC warranty has covered items such as Vanos, diffs, PAS rack, springs, RTABs, O2 sensors galore, seat rails.....

I think it is 100% worth renewing,

I had two claims on mine (was a 3 y/o M3) - one was for a throttle sensor or something (told it was £500, but got a copy of the invoice on my next visit - it was £150) and for a ceased brake caliper. They had the car so long waiting for the caliper that they did me a deal on fitting disks too.

All up, warranty was something like £780 and I paid excess twice at £100 a pop. In reality, I would have been better off going without a warranty and going to an independant for the work.

Not a single thing has gone wrong with my E60 in over a year and 10000 miles of driving.....maybe I won't renew the warranty next time!

Don't you need to factor in the extra wear and tear incurred with a BMW warranty as inveriably you drive the car as if it is stolen knowing that if components fail you are covered?

fuel pump
Actualtors left side
Actuators right side
fuel sender module
thingy that holds the spark plugs!

Well worth the £87 a month smile

I just had a call from the dealer this afternoon, they were looking into noise/movement from the rear of my CSL.
The fault is a worn bearing in the diff.

The solution? A complete new diff (at £2.5k) plus fitting & loan car (new Audi A4,which i've already had for 2 days).

All under the BMW extended/insured warranty.

As ste as the dealers can be sometimes, the BMW warranty is the only one to go with.
