Building a new Game/Race seat?

I've currently got a race seat made from MDF and I fancy making something else a little different.
Out of the 'off the shelf' models that you can buy I think that most are too expensive and there doesn't seem to be too many second hand ones around. I've seen a few made from aluminium profile extrusion and it looks like a good option.
Has anybody got any links to guides on making one?
If not, does anybody have any alternative suggestions that are cheaper than the Playseats/Gamepod/Gameracer offerings? I'd ideally like a proper setup and not a stand that sits infront of the sofa or clips to a desk.

I had a thought. Instead of building a new race seat I could modify my existing seat.
So should I see about getting a second hand bucket seat, maybe an Elise S1 (or something similar). Ideally a cheap but not bulky seat.
I did consider a kitcar GRP seat, maybe I could find a 'second' i.e. not suitable for a proper car but ideal for my use.

I've thought about doing this as I have a spare bucket seat lying around.

Elise seats are also nice and light + small but not very comfortable for long gaming sessions! They're not particularly cheap either. S1 seats seem to get high prices even 2nd hand.
