My old Travativ Stylo chainset is completely worn out and needs replacing so the obvious choice was an XT chainset. 140eur is a good deal but then I hit a problem. I've got a Hope bottom bracket fitted with a Truvativ adapter fitted. This is next to impossible to remove without damaging the bearings so I was wondering if I should stick with Truvativ.

If so, which compares to the Shimano XT chainset?

A new XT chainset will come with a Hollowtech BB so just fit that in place of the Hope one. I find that Shimano BB's last a reasonable amount of time and you can always replace with Hope again once it wears out.

Hope servicing is pretty good, have you asked them if they'll take your BB back and modify it to fit a hollowtech?
