Sorry but even as this film's greatest fan I am not going to sit through the whole thing again (Saw it 5 times at the cinema and many more on DVD, sad I know) just to see the 8 minutes of extra footage.

PS The main reason for seeing it many times was due to mates, brother, kids wanting to see it at different times over the months it was on at the cinema and I was happy to accompany them. Honest.

He is a graduate of the George Lucas school of making more money from the same film.

Not the first time Cameron has done it either, Aliens, then Aliens Special Edition.

The much discussed scene of alien copulation is mere seconds long, and is far less steamy than some were probably hoping. Elsewhere, there's an extra hunting scene, a brief sequence that shows an early retaliation from the Na'vi, prompting Colonel Quaritch's tree-wrecking expedition. Perhaps the most notable new moment occurs close to the end in a mercy killing that adds more melodrama where the end credits should be.

Ahh...but Aliens is a MUCH better film and easier to watch loads of times. smile

I too watched Avatar at the cinema a few times (due to having to go with friends, brother, parents) and now just can't stomach any more viewings.

biggrin

He'll be releasing the "even more special effects" version next.

And then the "to hell with the storyline (again), more CGI director's cut" at Christmas.

Have they done one with a 3D DVD cover yet?

To be fair to Cameron. Aliens, when released, was a long film (not really by todays standards I know) and if I recall correctly it was the cinemas that pointed out a cut in length of 17 minutes or so would mean they could get an extra showing in each day. It was the accountants that called that one.

I was just expecting it to be winding up when I realised there was another hour to go! Too long imo.

I've only seen it once, I don't think I'd mind watching it again.. Whether it be the extended version or otherwise..........

I thought is was a fantastic experience at the imax. I only saw it the once and will welcome the chance to see it again (despite it being a blatent attempt to milk it for more money).

I bought the box set which had the threatrical releases and the extended versions. I have to say that both Aliens and Alien 3 were significantly better in extended edition, especially the latter.

I don't suppose they are releasing a shorter version of Avatar, are they. That might be worth buying.

IMO it was long enough (no too long) and boring enough first time around, why I would want to watch even more is beyond me but guess there are some people who love the film and will go back for more.........but does sound like a bit of a money money plan to me.
