I'm quite tempted by an early model, 2002 plate. They are incredibly cheap and look fantastic value for money. But, will it bite me in the arse with big bills all the time?

Would love to hear from owners.

hehe Perhaps, but I'm thinking it could be a nice contrast to the Z4 and mean I don't constantly compare it. Plus, they are a bargain when you think about it!

I may also have to find a job further from home so would like to ride in comfort!

I saw one a couple of weeks ago - a 730D in black with every option. The owner bought it at Christmas with 150k on it and it's now coming up to 200k. He loves it and didn't have any horror stories about it

Soft touch boot lid and doors are nice!

I posted about these 2-3 years ago.
My impression was very much that they will cost you.
Loved the car but loads of electronics and the bills for the repairs on the one i tried needed were biggish given the low age and mileage and good condition. The owner of the car I drove only had it a couple of months after his E38. He got annoyed and replaced it with a Citroen C6. Now, to replace a 7 series with a barge Citroen (traditionally unreliable) something mad must have been going on....

Still would have one money no object. V12 for me smile.

2002/03 models are notorious for electrical gremlins. Should all have been ironed out by dealer network, but some cars may have slipped the net.

There's a lot to go wrong on these cars. You should definately have a contingency fund if you don't have a warranty.

That said, one coil pack, one spark plug and one comfort access door handle are the only things to have gone pear shaped on my 760 - all picked up by AUC warranty with £100 excess, so I can't complain about my first year's ownership.

I had a very brief chat with him outside AJ Robertson's in Hove. The owner was in some kind of environmental business but clearly does mega business miles

I've had an 03 plate 745i now for a few years and overall its been great, only thing electrical thats needed replaced was a part for the sound system and that was picked up by the warranty. Its a great car to drive, difficult to explain but it doesnt feel like a big barge when your driving it and the 4.4l v8 is a great match for the car.

Just dont fall into the trap of thinking because they're good value currently that you can run them on focus money.

Cheers,
C
