The art of finding a destination

When I was a boy, I was always amazed by the way my dad seemed to know how to get everywhere. There was no way he could have known every road and every town in Northern Ireland... but he did! Any trip we made to Scotland or England had me in awe of his magical abilities.
Then I learnt how to read maps and roadsigns myself and I discovered the magic behind finding a destination, not so magical really, just the ability to think.
My sister-in-law's sister-in-law was looking after my nephew today, he was then to be left with my wife and I this evening while his mother gets drunk. This woman lives no more than 400 yards from my wife and me but still needed directions. Then when she thought she was around the corner called on her mobile for final directions and was 400 yards further away than when she started. This woman has lived in the same area of this city for well over 30 years and can't find a house a stone's throw away. I've lived in Edinburgh 2 years and for me it's easy... Find the main road you want, find the road off that that leads to the right area, find the street, find the house.
