Hi all, i am new to the world's of Alfa ownership and pistonheads, however now belong to both.

I have just bought myself a gorgeous 3.0 V6 GTV, car runs and drives like a dream but does have a couple of minor issues (i hope).

1/ car came with 3 keys, a red remote key with 1 black button on top, a non remote red key and a brown key.
The red remote key came with no batteries so i have to lock and unlock the car by the door lock. What battery or batteries do i need? google search has conflicting advice, either 1 x cr2032 or 2 x cr2016. As these are both 3v batteries if i did need 2 2016's would that not then become 6v? My owners manual does not say so im hoping one of you guys can.

2/ both the front windows don't seal properly. if i push the windows from the outside i can push them back under the rubber door seal, also if after i have closed the doors i drop the windows then close them they will close under the seals. Are the windows supposed to drop slightly when the doors sre open or do they just need adjusting?

Thanks for any help.

Can't help with the keys, none of mine had a button for the remote - the remote plipper was a seperate thing.

The windows not sealing properly is a common problem, you can adjust them although I think it's a bit of a faff - I got mine done by the garage. smile Whether they should drop or not depends on the age of the car. Part way through 2002 (I think, tying in with the move from Alfa production to Pininfarina production) they added the auto-drop feature, cars built before then don't have it.

My car is a 2001, so i guess it's off to the garage to get them adjusted. Anyone know a good Alfa specialist close to me in Taunton Somerset. Willing to travel a reasonable distance, to say maybe Devon or Avon.

I've heard Bensport Alfas at Ilton near Ilminster are very good, and will be booking mine in for its cambelt sometime soon.

You might want to have a go at the windows yourself, I did mine (though they now need doing again...) using the official manuals. Have had a trawl of Alfaowner, and it looks like there are a load of manuals here: http://193.219.82.238/~manual/Workshop%20manual%27...

Cheers for that, i have had a look at the bensport site and may contact them tomorrow. May even enquire about cambelt replacement, current belts have done 40k miles.

Downloading the manual now, thanks again for that.

Do you have any idea about the key batteries?

Just checked one on my first post and its in German, sorry! I think the links on my second are in English.

I don't know about the key as mine is a 1999 GTV and has a seperate key and fob (which I also need a replacement for..).

I have a feeling from the issues you describe and from your location that you you have just bought this Alfa:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I hope not though - because it would mean you've just been had.

It was being discussed in "READERS CARS" where the new owner had tried to sneakily advertise it by starting a fake discussion about it and using a second login to help push it along: here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Also discussed here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Where you can see the seller was outed as having only bought the thing 2 weeks earlier for £1750 as it was advertised here look:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1913386.htm

Just looking back through the sellers profile it looks like he tried fixing the key fob - it obviously wasn't batteries look:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Looks like a very dodgy seller to me and probably an unlisted trader too.

I think the mods might want to have a word with garry68 aka alibongo1974. Majority on here are honest but this guy certainly isn't.

My key takes 2x2016 batteries sandwiched together.
My car is an early 2001, one of the first Pininfarina cars. It has the auto-drop windows.

Yes, sorry - it was part-way through 2000 that Pininfarina took over building them, not 2002. smile

2002 wasn't even the big-nose facelift date, that was 2003, so not sure at all why I put 2002. I guess when you get to my time of life...
