Abandoned Car - French Car

After a bit of advice,

Theres an abandoned french car close in a communal car park near in a set of flats I live in. Its been sat there for well over 2 months now untouched and not moved. I have spoken to everyone in the block and they all say its not theirs and we've all come to the conclusion it belong to one of the builders who worked on the flats being less than a year old whose just left it there most probably never to return again.

Now the usual score with this if it were an english car would be to apply for the V5 Reg and see if any owners come forward for it or if you recieve the V5. However what's the score with this as its on French plates and i've never done any kind of import on a vehicle and i have no paperwork for the vehicle at present or keys.

Err, what? Applying for a V5 is a way of registering a car in your name, not finding out if it's abandoned. That's an abuse of the system and bandied about on here far too flipantly. How does the OP know the car is abandoned and not simply parked.

They don't just issue you the V5! They send a letter to the registered keeper. Then if the RK responds you get a letter back saying "Piss orf" you can't have the V5.

Given he's asked the people who live there. How do you know it's NOT abandoned. What would be sufficient time for you to let it sit in one place not moving before you consider it abandoned?

The cars Tax/MOT that the French require to be displayed by law Expired July last year. Its been sat for more than two months it would seem suspicious for a car to be parked for two months and all residents and neighbours have no idea whose it is.

Well people own spaces two of which are visitor slots which people are beginning to complain about due to the lack of 1 space being consumed by the french car. A note has been on the car for a week suggesting the owner should come forward and still nothing.

A fked 205 diseasal, 2CV, Sh.itroën Pallas??

The Police will know what to do. They have access to French records through the usual Euro channels.

Well people own spaces two of which are visitor slots which people are beginning to complain about due to the lack of 1 space being consumed by the french car. A note has been on the car for a week suggesting the owner should come forward and still nothing.

Freeholders problem then. Get them to tow it out onto the puplic highway.

Is it parked illegally / dangerously?
Will your property be deemed abandoned when you go on holiday for 2 months so I can take it?
Surely it doesn't belong to you.

Say you had parking for 2 cars on your drive. But only 1 car. I noticed this and decided to park in your spare space on your drive. Would you wait 2 months for me to return before removing my car?

No, but my drive would be my land. Here, the car is parked on someone else's land and the OP fancies it even though he has no legal right to the land or the vehicle. If the block's tenants are concerned about it, they should ask the freeholder to have it towed away. The freeholder may then be able to dispose of it if it is not claimed but the proceeds of disposal would go to the freeholder.
