Teeth Whitening

Morning all,
The Mrs has been talking to her dentist about getting her teeth whitened, the costs they are quoting are quite simply ridiculous!
Can anyone recommend one of those home kits? I have come across a few, and they all claim to be "The Best and Cheapest home kit available!".
Don't really want to have to spend hundreds of pounds... Not too fussed about how long it takes to get the effects, some quote as little as 30 mins.

Home kits have recently been banned if they contain too much hydrogen peroxide. So be careful with ebay and the like as they may be too strong.
I have been using Blankx toothpaste for a while now, it does whiten your teeth quite well! It's not cheap but it is simple (we all clean our teeth right?!?!) to use and has no real taste and after a month or so she'll be pretty pleased.

Know what you mean about the cost.
I travel a lot to the States where, it seems, every one has perfect white teeth.
Even had the VP tell me I looked a bit 'European' as stood smiling for a photo.
I clean twice a day with colgate whitening etc so dont think my teeth are so bad but..........
Anyway decided to get the dentist to do the job and its working out quite expensive.
Cant remember the figure now but 500 quid rings a bell.

Dodgy kits from t'internet usually have industrial chemicals in which will irreparably damage the enamel, anything from boots won't be strong enough to make a difference.
How much are they quoting and where are you?

I have tried a few of the dental clinics locally (High Wycombe) and the cheapest I can find is aourn the £500 mark. Again for the first set of 3 Sessions, they have told me you may need up to 8 sessions to get the desired effect.
My dentist in Woking is doing in chair whitening special for £299 at the mo', he'd want to do a check up too....

I trained with Wyman, I'm sure the PH dentists will know the name, he has a dedicated whitening studio which makes it cheaper, you'll have to find out the price but I remember it being very reasonable

That's a good price. I had my teeth whitened earlier this year ahead of having a crown replaced and veneer fitted by a well regarded cosmetic dentist. I paid £450 for the whitening alone, and wore a fitted gum shield filled with whitening gel for a fortnight overnight. The difference is staggering, especially given I'm a heavy coffee drinker with teeth badly stained by childhood medicine.This is a picture post whitening and ahead of having my old crown replaced - the crown was obviously the same colour as the rest of my teeth pre-whitening:
And the finished job - ignore the crooked smile - I was still numb at the time!
After advice from Rach* about what type and how best to get it done (admittedly it was about a year ago!) I have finally decided to go for it before my wedding, 1st appointment on Thursday. It's about 350 in Bristol but I'm going to my dentist in Frome and paying £250. If anyone is interested I'll post up my experiences over the coming weeks. I have been warned my teeth will be sensitive which is why I'm doing it a few weeks before my wedding, anything which stops me from drinking cold champers on my wedding day is not good!!!

At the dentist its 1 treatment and that's it, and its the most effective out of all of them. It might leave your teeth feeling a little sensitive that day, but most will do that.
