RR auction price?

Hi Papabear, 70 % of my business is supplying main dealers, specialists and finance companies with sports/prestige/4x4 stock. Mostly our stock is sourced from our client database ( public), various companies we have relationships with etc. A consultant of my business was one of the largest prestige dealer groups head specialist buyer so we not only purchase but get offered several models of Land Rover product on a daily basis.
Range Rovers amongst other 4x4 models have taken a hiding in Glass's Guide, over the last 2/3 months in particular. but as always when the onset of winter comes and Weather forecasts get more severe ( will we get much snow again this year ?? ) prices will come back a little bit as demand increases and people realise they want a decent 4x4 for the winter.
there is a quite a premium for a vogue se above a vogue. bearing in mind essentially the vogue se gains rear entertainment and premium perforated leather as factory options. the difference being over 3k on an 0808 with average 30k miles for example. Many dont justify the difference and if they need rear entertainment they just retro fit it. The cars we are trading at present tend to be aroung 2 - as much as 4 k behind book. Being honest we dont purchase at auction e.g bca, manheim etc as find that very average examples e.g ex finance, repos, overage stock etc can be a little edgy needing prep, tyres, paint, only one key, handbooks missing etc and they STILL acheive very strong money as of course the auctions are full of part-time traders, semi-retailers, and private buyers looking for a bargain. Unless you have an account, buyers fees are not cheap if you are spending that kind of money...so overall result 99% of the time would not realise a saving infact can often be an expensive purchase.
If you are looking for a nice tdv8 vogue se black/black, grey/black, silver/black i.e popular combo's with the right history 08/08 onwards with less than 30k miles you will be looking at mid to late thirties. obviously the genuine 20' LR alloys are desirable and if you were looking at such at LR main agent they would be looking for £41,995 to £43,995 again depending on combo, mileage etc.
Remember the new facelift RR is out so this is making last of the old shape 08/09 relatively good value in comparison. I think throughout winter an 0808 or 58 black or grey tdv8 vogue se ( with nice mileage) value will plateau somewhat and should not plunge at 700 to 1100 a month which it has been doing for the last few months in the GG !
My own advice for a nice car, would be to look on here in the classifieds and 'bid' a seller a serious offer, as you will find if they have this sort of car, age etc they have perhaps been given a part-exchange offer by their dealer often against a new range rover. With the current climate whilst retail activity is ok ( certainly no records are being broken sales wise !), many LR dealers are reasonably stocked and hence are making quite low offers on part ex's as they are also having to give a 'good quote' on the clients new car so margins are defo squeezed.
If you need any advice on a particular car please let me know, if you are thinking seriously of taking the plunge now is not a bad time....as the further we get into winter the less generally are available ( the right cars anyhow).
Also an 0808 tdv8 vogue ( non se) with sub 30k miles can be got for 33 to 34k if you are lucky enough !
Hope this helps, of course if your new to RR product, great vehicles, status, certain feeling etc but you DO get niggles hence buy as late plate as your budget will stretch as you will be greatful for the warranty !! But RR owners know what to expect, for me the pleasure outweighs the troubles ! ......

Unfortunatley ' trade guides ' are just that they are guides the differences between CAP and Glass's ( the ones the proper trade use not which car, or parkers etc can be considerable and as I always say to my client if he/she quotes " well parkers says my car is worth this " my retort is well why dont you ask Mr Parker to write out a cheque then......silence and grumbling and they dont know what to say. After trading over 50 Range Rovers in the last 8 months its fair to say you have to be on the front line ( with the cheque book) knowing what they actually 'transact' at but in fairness I wouldnt want to leak too many trade secrets as got to leave some business for he bca, manheims and their cleints the trade enthusiasts, general public, etc as the prices they are achieving are still phenominal but pushed up by the private billy wanting a ' bargain!
