Engine info required
Discussion
To be honest with you it could be anything, Certainly not anything official,
It could be something as silly as Terry Andrews 12.30.
Dont let it get in the way of making a decission on the car check other factors like, service history, chassis condition, interior and exterior condition, has the suspension been upgraded when /has clutch been replaced as this can cost £1k. The SP6 is a great engine it MUST be warmed up before giving it a thrashing. If you can find one with a engine rebuild by a reputable garage all the better but they don't all require it if they have been looked after.

Thanks,
The chassis certainly wasn't spotless. Some small patches of surface rust on the outriggers and some more on the anti roll bar. The bolts along the sides showed surface rust. I don't know what scales people consider bad or good, but for an 8 years old its certainly bad. Judgement on the current owner can perhaps be made, but i have no way of finding out how owners prior warmed their vehicles.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you consider surface rust on the underside bolts as a bad sign, then maybe a TVR isn't right for you...One of the design engineers where I work came up to me shortly after I had got my Tuscan saying how he was after getting a Tuscan S to replace his (immaculate) Civic Type R. A couple of weeks later I saw him in his new (immaculate) M3 convertable. I think he'll be happier with that. A year on and it still looks the same, with never even a hint of brake dust on any of the alloys!
While I like things to be done right, I wouldn't say I'm a perfectionist, but even I get annoyed by my cars niggles. I imagine a perfectionist would find TVR ownership quite stressful, although there are exceptions - http://www.varleyhyd.com/FJ062.asp

that is uncannily similar!! what information do you have on that engine then?
None at all, I'm afraid. The car's a November '02 build but the finger followers etc appear to be the later (2004?) casting. Maybe it was rebuilt sometime before 10,000 miles, maybe not. It doesn't really matter, to be honest. If it goes pop it'll just have to make way for a 4.5.If you're in the market for a Tamora (or T350), just remember it's an incredible amount of car for the money; keeping some cash in the bank for a rebuild is nothing compared to what you'd have to pay for similar performance from a different manufacturer.
Blangs, if you do find out who did the writing, please let me know. I'm not convinced it happened at the factory (I doubt even TVR would scribble a big 1 on the oil filler). The car was always serviced by Walldonway, so maybe the phantom felt-tipper was there?
Blangs,
After 8 nyears you could expect some surface rust on the chassi and on the bolts, as long as it is not riddled with rust it will just require some tidying up. I make a point of getting under the car every few months and sorting any bits of surface rust that appear and over winter Nov-Feb jack it up and give everything a good clean. My car was pretty manky underneath when I got it but now it looks pretty good and more to the point I know every bit of it underneath now.

When was it done at the factory? During manufacture, or when the factory did an engine rebuild?
During manufacture. The 3.6 denotes engine size, TA is tamora and 1230 is the build number. It was so they put the right engines in the right cars etc. Just TVRs method of quality assurance in manufacturing. Ive also owned many s13 200sx's so i am no wimp to rust. Some of the Bilt & hamber sp? products are great and when bench marked against waxoyl put it to shame.
