Pipework for fitting Bosch AFM's
Discussion
Ive now got a low cost Bosch replica AFM working as a plug replacement for the Lucas 5AM with a bit of extra electronics, (so it does not need chipping) but my only issue is now what extra bits are needed for the TVR induction system. Its fitted and working on my Ginetta, but it has a different inlet pipework, so I need to know how the Bosch is to the TVR fitted pipework wise. The Bosch replica is shorter and the inlet and outlet diamenters are bigger, so does the TVR pipework stretch enough to accomidate it or do you have to replace both the filter to AFM hose and AFM to plenum? Any photos appreciated.

Hi Mark.. Think most will do this with a smooth bore upgrade also.. as the old cori-pipe from the filter and to the MAF is very restrictive... That said, I used the old 5AM white clame on mine.. it does neck it down to 72mm but that said, it's only the size of the Plenum then... And you can see how much the brackett had to move from the old screw position...
All that said you may be able to get the old flixy bit's to fit as they did move a lot in comparison with the 3" smooth bore..and the Bosch is a lot shorter unit so MAF to Plenum is about the same may be? Hope this helps...,, Did you get any further with the little blower project?.. Cheers.. John

At the moment I think there is more to be gained buy forcing the ECU out of lambda control just at the point the cars start to shunt, by lifting the AFM voltage at this point so the mixture is richer, but keeping it where it should be at idle and further up the RPM band so it does not force the ECU into a fault condition, and keeps the catalysts happy. Ive got the circuits working that allow me to have control over both the low speed mixture when the fuel trim is set, plus the open loop area, and I have 2 more prototypes ready to test on other cars if I can find some locally with the problem. Id just like to get the pipework sorted so I dont have to mess around when I do find some test cars. Just as a matter of interest the Chinese replica Bosch AFM's do basically work, but the calibration is variable between different units, so there is no way you would get them to plug and play with a a standard MA rechip, so I can understand why he dislikes them. Not so much of a problem when you recalibrate each one to match the 5AM output.
