I'm away for a week shortly in Budapest and need an OK hotel within an easy drive to the centre that has parking for a Renault Master LWB van. I've searched and called a few hotels and a couple have said no problem, but you know what its like - you turn up, no parking and it's a bloody nightmare for a week. I've can't fly because we are setting up a conference for a client and have a van full of equipment to transport to site.

Obviously, we'll be out for a beer or two in the evening so the closer the better and whilst I think about it, any good bars/restaurants worth visiting?

Cheers smile

mods, please don't move this as I need ideas and this will get exposure in the lounge wink

The Ibis is quite nice but the parking's not ideal for a LWB van but ok at a push, Lion's Garden is really nice and has on-road parking for larger vehicles, to be honest i think your going to have to go to the outskirts to get really good parking.

It's a great city though, spend quite a bit of time there with work, great night life and resturants (women arn't bad either!)

Edited to add, the Oktagon is the place to go on a night, loads of bars and resturants, the sub-ways great for getting around (I usually hate public transport but it really is good)

Thanks Chris.

Need to be within reach of the Marriott and the Four Seasons hotel for work. If you were to look further out, where would you go and assuming we need to go out in the evening, can we get into the city?

We're going here http://www.corinthia.com/home?l=1&c=3 which seems pretty central and has a garage.

I'm there next weekend for the half marathon but am more interested in decent bars for the evening rather than parking since i am flying there.

Any suggestions?

Apologies for thread hijack but I assume OP will need to know about bars once he's parked his van.

I think it is fair to surmise that neither OP nor I would be unhappy if recommendations were provided for, ahem, gentleman's clubs

(provided that we were not going to be mugged/ripped off* in them and the ladies were of suitable quality)

  • yes, yes, i know you always get ripped off, but don't want to get totally fleeced and marched to an ATM

For dinner, head to Fatal's on Vaci Utca. Order the steak in Devil's Sauce. It's absolutely fantastic - it almost makes up for the fact you're in Budapest...

A good choice, I went to a party there a couple of months ago and I've never been so impressed by a hotel and that was just the lobby.

Regarding OP's question I stayed at the Ibis by Heroes square which had parking but I think you'll struggle with parking the van however there is a second Ibis about half a mile up the road which looked to have better parking.

Here it is: http://goo.gl/maps/UXA4

Unfortunately it is a little way out of the centre.

That's good to know, thanks! We're judging by the reviews online but you can never quite be sure!
