Public are welcome. They specialise in Land Rovers so there is always plenty of choice.

I have bought a few Land Rovers from them,long way to go and then you have to get car collected if you win anything,there is also the buyers premium to add to those prices.Bids can often go through the roof as lots of general public attend and can push the prices up.

Also there's the occasional one like my old RangeRover there that is completely and utterly knackered. I'd only buy from Auction it it's come from a dealer or straight from a fleet company.

You really need to go and see the cars before you make judgement especially with defenders. Bought probably 30 from them over the last 10 years. Some ex farm stuff,some ex utility stuff and some ex private stuff. Massive difference in condition.
My last 90 i bought was a 96 p truck cab with 80k. Worth 3800 cap paid 4100 with an invoice for 3600 of work done the previous week.
You need to go and have a look if you are serious
