I have heard a few passing comments about the first e60 M5 having 'issues' as i will be soon in the market for an 05 - 06 M5 I wonder if there are specific issues with an earlier car I should be aware.

I would like low mileage and warranty over anything else. but if the 05's have problems??

They were fixed by a recall. It was a VANOS piping issue from memory. It affected cars built during 2005, I think. My March 2006 M5 was not subject to the recall.

Certainly true, mine's been in for the last 12 weeks with the pipe issue.

OP, If you want one that's done, you can have mine for 26 pence.

Your car, as others have pointed out, is a lemon. The VANOS should have been sorted out five years ago.

Gibo, Mfunf has been very unlucky. They are generally solid mechanically.

Well I guess it's decided to become a lemon at the age of 5 years, just like you have decided to become an all knowing, rude individual.

Most are solid. As this one was up until 12 weeks ago, when one dealer decided to let one or two parts take 12 weeks to sort.

What did I say that was rude? You take offence very easily.

You suggest that the problem with your car is the one that should have been fixed in the recall back in 2006. Was it fixed then or not?

Maybe i'm a little sensitive after a call to the idiots that are attempting to repair it.

I have tried hard to find if this oil pipe was an actual recall. But anyway, no, it would seem it wasn't done in 2006. I can assure you i'd love to know why if it was a recall.

The car has been perfect up to this, and it would seem some of the new parts weren't needed and the others are all related. I was on the understanding that a lemon was a car that would manifest many faults.

If it was bought used, then the Approved Used guarantee should cover teherecall work's having been done. I'd be equally upset in your shoes.

OMG I feel for you, It would not put me off the e60 M5 as I know some will be bound to have problems, that why I would want a Warranty, but this must of driven you to distraction.

15p and you have a deal ;o)

Hope it all works out soon.

Would my Dec 2005 been subject to recall?

I can't find much about it, other forums have said that 2006 cars were fitted with a higher rated hose due to the known fault.

I do know that it manifests itself as a rattle from the vanos area, possibly on one bank more than the other, and the oil level changing rapidly up or down. On mine some days it would rise by 0.2L or more, other times it might drop 0.2 or more after 1 short trip.

Its fair to say that through the model life cycle niggles do get ironed out, some say the 07+ is a more refined car than the 05MY.

Still rather have an E90 M3 though-manual of course!

Just a bit off topic but what the difference between the Audio with the chromed trimmed button that seems to be on the later cars and every e61 M5 I have seen
