Hello all,

I could do with a bit of advice!

Am currently driving an M6 convertible after having quite a few BMWs in the past and find myself lusting after a 612 Scaglietti.

How do these fare as a semi daily driver, doing roughly 10,000 miles a year? The running costs on the M6 are in no way small but would I be mad and would the running costs cripple me? It would be a 2004/5ish model so would probably go Independant route but am I right in saying a lot of the Independants don`t do the 612 as it needs the Ferrari S3(?) tool?

I`m currently getting 16mpg, what would be average in the Scag?

Lastly does anyone know these cars?

I'm not aware of many, if any, 612 owners on pistonheads. Perhaps it would be worthwhile checking ferrarichat out? There seem to be owners of every type of Ferrari on there and I'm sure they would be happy to help out.

There are a few owners on Club Scuderia I think.

Not really my cup of tea but I thought that one looked fab.

My business partner drives a 612. He uses it more sparingly than his daily driver - but it goes down to South of France once a year - and gets about 3-4K miles put on in a year.

It just works - and works well. Carries his family (of four) comfortabley - and also their luggage. I've been in the back seats (5'9") - with a 6 footer in front - with room to spare. Really works as a GT.

Oh - and he's taken it to Spa and Nurburgring for the last two years - and gets tracked - so maybe it is being used properly!

Many thanks for the replies.

That one at Monksheath certainly looks the part but have realised it`s a manual and I`m not partial to black leather interiors.

These cars represent crazy value for money really don`t they?

They do look good value, especially the first one.

Big bills though, especially main dealer. 7-9k for a bells and whistles serice with brakes or clutch would not be unusual..

That`s certainly the one I`m leaning towards. Meridien Modena isn`t far from me as well.

I`m really umming and aahing over this as the depreciation is utterly savage, even more so than my M6.

I think these cars have got a wee bit further to go before they bottom out at 50k ish for a while at which point it would be an utter no brainer.

It would actually make more sense financially and for my first Ferrari to go late low lileage 360 spider and buy a 3 series diseasal for the day to day. That has its appeal but I err towards the understated (hence the M6) and to me the 612 is beautifully understated.

On the other hand the car from Munich has a 2 year warranty......Decisions decisions.

Go for it. A Ferrari as your daily is something special that alot of other people wouldn't do.
