They are putting the larger than expected rise down to construction. Anyone else work in construction? Not sure where they are getting their figures from but as far as I can see the construction industry seems to be really struggling - or is it just us?

Are there any PH'ers out there in construction doing a roaring trade? Everyone I speak to says they have "some" work on but there doesnt seem to be much money out there.

I couldn't get a builder round my way for love nor money (extension) - they all seem to be flat out.
Had 5 people round, 2 couldn't start for 6+ months, 2 decided not to bid.

That's building, rather than construction.

Aren't a lot of the "construction" projects funded by the public sector?

"The economy grew by 1.2% in the quarter, the Office for National Statistics"

Yep and the government has pulled a lot of them to cut back on spending as far as i understand. These stats were from the 2nd quarter. I reckon the same stats for the third wont make such impressive reading. Certainly not in the construction industry anyway.

I suppose what i really wanted to know was if anyone else working in the construction industry is finding it easy to win jobs at decent rates currently.

A friends dad is in construction. He says the money is still out there but he has had to start being less picky about the jobs. Before he would cherry pick jobs to only the local area but now he is having to work further afield

Statistics can mean anyhting you want them to mean. Down here on ground zero, middle earners have been fked over, the pound in your pocket goes less far, now the credit boom has gone, new labours attack on small businesses can be seen. Nothing works, banks cant lend, noone saves, mortgages are effectively being subsidised, its like a zombie economy. Growth my arse.
