Hi everyone,
I'm looking at a 1997 328i and have just had an AA inspection carried out. The only faults are missing dust caps on the front (m-sport) suspension and a worn synchromesh between 2 and 3. I want to try get the car ASAP but I need to know how much this will cost so that I can make an offer.
Thanks, Tom

Bump.
Can anyone give me a vague figure? I've tried companies on Google but they all say I need to bring it in for an inspection before they quote.
Thanks, Tom

I would guess £750-1000 for a gearbox R&R and rebuild? Plus a few quid for a new clutch disk while the box is out? Here's a data point - http://www.gizmosltd.co.uk/z1.htm

Depends what you want to do, a refurb box will cost more but should be warranted or you could stick a decent 2nd hand gearbox in.
I picked up a 2nd hand 328 box for £30 and it works fine. A gamble that paid off.
Bear in mind what ever you do it involves removing the box so budget a few hundred quid for that I would assume, depending on where you take it and it would be sensible to replace the clutch while it's out unless it's been done recently and not worn.
£500-£600 not including clutch as a pie in the sky figure? Might be more (recon route) or might be less (2nd hand route).

Edited for speeling

Sam issue with mine. If it is just the synchrohub then I've been quoted £120 for a reconditioned part and a crate of beer for the labour. Add a couple of hours labour charges in and you're probably looking at £400 or so.
