Hi All

Well, the Ultima build continues, so I have posted some pictures to see what you think, I have gone 'off range' on some things.

I have a dilemma coming up soon.....I would very much like to put the engine and gearbox in before buying the body, to get everything right, and to do the wiring - I have developed my own CAN based modules with electronic fuses / control / inputs to massively simplify the wiring and make it far more robust and software configurable, but I would like to put this in when the engine is in and the body is not....

Can I not just make a aluminium panel to go behind the roll cage to holf all of the gubbins and then when the body is fitted just remove it and use the holes made as a template to drill into the fibreglass? or to fit the aluminium panel over the fibreglass?

Anyways, I am really interested in your comments on the build so far, as you lot have so much more experience at doing this and it would be really helpful if someone could point out things that I may be doing wrong, or not quite right....

Oh, and I am thinking of buying a car lift, any pointers here?

I THINK.... you will find that the hoses to the heater will interfere with your body at the radius you have them now. This is one of the small areas that I would do different if I ever build another GTR. I would run the heater hoses up the side of the car in alloy tube. I would then wrap them as a pair with header wrap or some other insulation materail. On either end I would teminate them with a welded on 90 degree bulkhead male fitting. the cockpit end of the pipe I would mount through a verticle flange attached to the frame. then one of the cloth covered hoses with fittngs to the heater core. You'd have to brase a fitting onto the heater core inlet pipes or just slip it over with a C clamp. in the engine bay I would terminate the alloy tube the same way only it would be easier because the heater input and output on an LS motor are threaded. I like this idea because the alloy is lighter than the rubber hose and takes up less space. Also eventual the rubber will need to be replaced which would mean taking off the side pod, not so with the alloy tube. Just an idea that I thought of to late in my build. Lee

Hi

So the Aircon hoses and heater hoses are going to foul with the body?

Really nice job of mounting the shifter and the cable stays. Did CMS make these mounts?

gareth the hoses will not foul the body, but that have a really narrow gap to go through and you will need to know were that gap is exactly at before you commit to securing the hoses to the frame. Also the alcon hoses are very stiff and it takes a little finnese to get the arc of the hoses and the gap that they go through lined up. Lee

Hi

Great! Thanks for the replies.

I made the brackets for the gear changer, CMS supplied the actual changer, which is work of art :-)
