Could someone advise me on the correct size for speakers in the Cerb. I've got the rears sorted, but I'm unsure about the front and sub, so:

1) What size speakers should be used at the front - 6.5"? If I wanted to fit smaller speakers (5 1/4") could I, with an adapter kit? What depth speakers will the door take, and has anyone had any success with spacers to free up some more room

2) I presume the helmet holder gap will allow fitment of a 8" or 10" sub?

3) How do I run the cables if fitting an amp in the boot?

Many thanks,

Darren.

Speaking of rear speakers, anyone fancy a (very) cheap replacement set which no doubt will vastly improve on the original Pioneers - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3086889951&category=3292
I've obviously have no relation to the vendor, just thought it looked particularly cheap!

Hi.
First of all, get your power for the amp, from the fuse box.., which is in the boot. That saves you an extra run of cable, and saves messing around getting it through the bulkhead.
All the cables run from the head unit, along the tunnel (under the trim) through the cubby hole, and into the boot to the amp. From the amp, the 10" JL sub cable goes back into the cubby hole. The door speaker cables follow the same route, but continue back past the head unit, to each door. The only problem is getting the cable from the car, into the door. All rest is straight forward.
My amp is fastened to the inside of the boot wing. I can also remove the sub enclosure, should I need to get to the relays etc...

Hope this helps.

I bought some 10cm (4") speakers to replace the rears in my Cerb, only to find that the current rears are 9cm! Who makes 9cm speakers? Why do they bother? More importantly, why were they chosen to be fitted to my Cerb?

They are sitting in the box at the moment, waiting for me to get an arse about sorting out the sound system properly.

I got some Focal rears that fit perfectly, must have been lucky I guess!

I have a 8 inch Cerwin Vega sub in the helmet holder with 6.5 inch Boston mids and 1.5 inch CDT tweeters in the door.

Due to the size of the magnet on the mids I've had to put a spacer between the speaker chassis and the door panel. You can just make out the blue spacer on the pic...

and here's the sub...

It's all powered through an Alpine amp floor mounted in the boot...

Hope this gives an idea...

All the best

Interesting stuff. I was personally planning on putting the tweeters a little higher up (on the other panel) but your looks pretty neat (as in tidy!). I've been offered some really good quality 5 1/4 components. Does anyone know whether I'd be able to get an adapter/spacer to make them fit without it looking unsightly?

Bought myself some Focal PolyKevlar 6.5" components today .I don't look forward to trying to get them to fit in the doors though (lot of spacers no doubt!)

Nope, from the talkaudio.co.uk forum. However, there is a set on ebay at the moment. He purchased them for 150 previously so if you want some, make him an offer!

Started to look at fitting the speakers today, and have a couple of questions:

1) There's load of fibreglass, probably an 3/4 inch thick behind the speakers (in front of the window glass). Any idea why it's there? Can it safely be removed to create more room?

2) What were they thinking with those Pioneer speakers. Certainly very, very light but somewhat explains the sound quality!

3) Where should I place the tweeters. I'd ideally like them on the dash, anyone done it, and it is difficult from a wiring point of view

4) Has everyone placed crossovers in the doors, or is there a better place to put them (like the passenger footwell by the ECU?).

thanks!!

Darren.
