I bought this Sat Nav a few years ago and was told at the time that I would get free updates. I have only managed to do this once and then they expected me to pay. Does anyone know where I can get free updates for this model, as I am a lorry driver and could really do with up to date maps?

Many thanks

Paul

If you registered your nüvi660 with Garmin at the time you bought it, you might have been entitled to an update to whatever the latest set of maps were at the time.

There are no other legal ways of getting a 'free' update.

If you buy the 'nüMaps Lifetime' product (about £70 from somewhere like Amazon), you will be able to download the latest mapping for your GPS as soon as it is released (about 4 times per year). But you need high-speed Internet access - and your nüvi660 will probably only have enough space for the 'Western Europe' mapping rather than the entire City Navigator NT Europe mapping - and the download process itself can take several hours.

You cannot transfer the 'nüMaps Lifetime' product to another SatNav - it is tied to the unit you've registered.

Incidentally, I am informed that 'nüMaps Lifetime' is 'time dependent software', so is allowable against income tax for business users.

and Garmin can "retire" your unit from the LifeTime maps update whenever they feel like it, without telling you.

pault1310, did you buy the nüMaps Lifetime product from Garmin for your nüvi660? If so, then it should still work OK. Provided, that is, that you have sufficient C-drive space on your PC and are content to download the relevant mapping sub-set to your unit rather than to an SD card.

The nüvi660 doesn't have enough memory capacity for the full City Navigator NT Europe 2011.20 mapping - but the Western Europe maps load just fine.

If you've both registered your nüvi660 AND have paid for nüMaps Lifetime, then there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to download the latest mapping IF you have sufficient available C-drive space on your PC. If you meet all those criteria and are still unable to download, just e-mail Garmin UK and they will help you to sort out the problem.
