Donington Park - 28/08/10
Discussion
Brilliant day today, good to see Donington back up and running. And also a credit to Circuit Days for a well organised day, there were a few stoppages but they were really swift in getting the track back open. Also never really encountered a queue to get on circuit, only waiting for a gap in traffic.
Real shame though in the afternoon with the chap in the Lotus, hope he's alright, as the car certainly isn't
Some really nice machines there today, at least one PH member in the MR2. Hope I didn't hold you guys up too much, was in the red Leon Cupra R, the Falken tyres aren't upto much in the bends and ended up with warped discs so was braking quite early!

was in the red Leon Cupra R,
This one ? Nice and shiny, fair play to you for taking what is obviously your pride and joy on track

I was in the Blue Golf.

Saw a few PH stickers on cars, one on the MR2, also the Noble which was being driven much quicker in the afternoon !

I heard the briefing was especially amazing .....
I heard the instructions was even better
Nice to meet you Darren. Had a great, if unfortunately brief time there. Sure to see
you around again soon.
It wasn't the Evora that had a knock was it?
Anyone have a link to any pics, please?
Jack

Hey Jack, how did you like Donington? Its a while since Ive been but we are there a little later in the year, so would be great to catch up.Never been to Donington before but will definitely be back! Loved the circuit!
Jack
I used to do Donington at least 6 times a Year so it will be great to get back there. Whats the surface like?
RE the Lotus incident, I wasnt there of course but the Lotus tub is very strong, so although the car looks a mess, hopefully, the driver is ok (ish) Best regards anyway to him.

Unfortunately had to leave at lunch but had a great couple of hours.
Surface is very good. Curbs are nice. Everything about the track is spot on. The rest of the facilities are ok too, but it looks like you could spend another £50m getting the place to look as nice as some of the others circuits around the country!
I'll check the dates for your Donny day.
Jack
Metalman, this you ?

You were going much faster in the afternoon ! Great improvement in pace on the day, you should be pleased.
I had a moment at Craner...
Craner curver, flat in 4th, about 100mph, turned in too sharply which unsettled the back, normally that would be manageable, but I then kept it to the left of the track, instead of letting it drift ot the right as I had been doing the rest of the day, this unloaded the rears even more. The OSR had just been swapped from the NSR (as it was wearing a lot) and all those contributed to me having a big moment. Sideways, clouds of smoke and 4 very flat-spotted tyres . Left a lovely pair of SS`s on the tarmac too.. I got some opposite lock on but it wasn`t enough and we came to a halt.. "thats fekked them tyres " said chris the instant we`d stopped

The Black Exige you can see passing me was the one that crashed, I was hoping to speak to the bloke later in the day, I hoped he had a video camera running, I`m sure it would be interesting to vew from the outside ! Hope he`s ok, it was a big one

.The thing with slides like that, or `moments` is that I always want to understand why they happened. In this case, I know it was my sharp turn in and keeping it to the left over the `bump`, which unsettled the car. Its why you lose it and don`t know why that I don`t like.
I was pleased to keep it on the tarmac, the GPS was showing 100 as it went, it we`d gone on the grass, it could have very easily dug in and flipped !

Just watched you flat spotting your tyres Nigel. Richard here met you yesterday, red 106. Had a brilliant day 2nd time at donington, To clarify the black exige in video is my mates chasing my other mates VX220. It was not his car in accident. Is there any news on the health of the guy, hope he's o.k. ?

OK, sorry about that. Yeah, had a good chat with Richard, we had some great laps together, the sort that you remember long after the trackday. I`ve got them on video, will upload next week, I`m off to Anglesey for a TD tomorrow now
Did he happen to have a video running ????
The photos are from my wife, she was out taking photos yesterday. WHat car were you driving, I`ll see what she took
