Power steering problem

Morning all. The TVR fairy has visited in the two days my car has been sat on the drive. Having been away on a 200 mile jolly the previous couple of days, my power steering has been spitited away!.

I have now got the right hump as – it’s its 2yr anniversary tomorrow and its bank holiday so I can’t get the replacement part as the Peugeot dealer is closed!! So no birthday blatt for me.


I have had a play and concluded the relay is probably the culprit. My reasoning is as follows…..

1) Fuses checked and all OK, clean & secure.

2) With the relay removed on the other end of the block, with the engine running, I have 13v+ on two of the pins (only 1 pin live with the engine off) and 0.42v on the other pin.

3) With the relay in place and the PS pump disconnected, there is no voltage across the two pins on the connector which provides the juice to the PS pump.


Does this seem logical? Is there anything else I have missed.

Agree, just don't aim for any tight parking bays.

oh yes 60 miles with no power steering I now have arms like Popeye! gave her a birthday wash & polish too!

Nice looking Tam, great colour ! Mine also packed up a couple of weeks ago. My popeye arms managed to get it down to the nice people at Dulfords who found out it was one of the fusable links, if that's any help. It had corroded quite badly.

Thanks Shaun. Almost certain its the relay as I have power to the block that the relay fits in then nothing on the other side. Got one of ebay for a tenner that will become a 'spare' when I am sure this is the fault then I will look at getting a new one but they cost over £20 from TVR people so not sure what Peugeot will want?

There is an an up-rated one relay (65 amps instead of 45 amps) available from Renault part No is 8200253922, although you have to remove the relay internals and fit them into the grey water resistant case. It is a bit cheaper than the original item.

All sorted, new relay did the trick. The Renault upgrade was a good idea & the relay is the same price (£23 inc VAT). I got a spare from a scrapper for a tenner as well to keep in my spares in case it fails again whilst not at home.

As helpful as the parts bloke at Peugeot was they could not find the same relay listed anywhere on their system even with the part number that is printed on the side of it!!
