what newspapers do you prefer?

I know this may sound a bit silly but i am genuinely interested in this. i used to read the news of the world about ten years ago and then switched to the daily mail and occassionaly read the sun. but lately i have tried a few others and have been pleasantly surprised.
the ones i have tried comprise of the guardian, independant, telegraph and even the times but for the life of me i can't make my mind up as to which i shall subscribe to for the year. my main interests in the papers are the financial side of things. i know there is the financial times but this is a little too in-depth and less well rounded than i would like. i take an avid interest in shares and investments ut can't quite find a paper to fit my bill.

any ideas?

yeah the financial times is one i have looked at but i work away alot and online you have to pay to view like the times newspaper. only a pound a day i know but every other paper is free so i don't see the point of paying etc.

For financial stuff the Financial Times is the best place to be. I find on the whole I tend to go to the Daily Telegraph most of the time (it's right of centre stance balances the BBC's left of everything including Cuba stance) though I do like the Independent on occasion too. On the other hand I wouldn't use the Guardian to light a fire for fear they'd persecute me over the environmental damage it might cause.

Anything but

(1)the Guardian. Toynbee (a vomit inducing New Labour apparatchik) and (that nauseating ) Monbiot are both on my (actually very short) list of people whose immediate deaths i would celebrate.

If you want financial news, get the FT. It's other reporting is decent enough.

In truth there is precious little investigative journalism really going on in the mainstream press; it's all either sensationalist rubbish, basically a press release or, in the political bits, little more than what the government has told them to print.

I tend to use google news for a random assortment of quality and bias. For breaking news, this place is quite impressive.

i don't know why but i kind of dislike martin lewis and the website is kind of poo. can't explain why but have tried putting it on my favourites but refuse to use it as the layout annoys me. stupid eh.

Just get a subscription to FT.com or set up RSS links to financial sites.

I have loads of news feeds to my smart phone and a few apps for tracking prices and markets. You can program in your portfolio too. In fact, with online access to my stockbroker, I can pretty much do anything via my phone these days. Massive improvement on the past.

If I do buy a paper paper, its usually the Guardian or Telegraph dependent on mood. Won't touch Murdoch stuff on principle now, especially since the website went paywall.
