Clutch won't disengage!

Went to leave for work and I cant get her into gear!..... Checked the clutch fluid level and its fine and there feels to be plenty of pressure in the pedal. Tried starting in gear with the clutch all the way down and the car just moves on the starter motor.

Anyone got any ideas?

master cylinder ... same as mine was but i did slave and clutch before i found was just master.....

Had a look and there are little bits of black rubber in the fluid, does this point towards master cylinder or slave? Is there an upgrade for the standard TVR part as I hear they can go somewhat often? Just seems wierd that I have lots of back pressure in the pedal. Can't get to the car till friday now due to work commitments

Hi Brett

Black bits in master cylinder resevoir usually point to master cylinder seals shot. Get your head into the drivers footwell remove the mat and carpet from behind the pedals and see if any fluid has started to run down from the master cylinder. Is there any fluid on the carpet? There may not be as this has only just happened hence why you noticed the fluid level appears to be normal. You can get seal kits for the master cylinders but most seem to fit a new cylinder altogether costing around £65 from Power or Clevor Trevor. This is a two man job by the way to undo the fixing bolts. Not sure it would be an easy job to fit an uprated one due to differant dimentions but you may be able to get uprated seals like you can for the slave cylinders. Best of luck.

Think I'll rebuild mine and hope it fixes it! Cheers for the link, is this definitely the one for the Cerb?

Had a similar problem recently and turned out to be the Master (which I discovered after replacing the Slave).

The only pain is bracing and then removing the bottom retaining bolt.
Make sure you have a 13mm one of these before you start

It could also be the clutch pressure plate fingers have started to break off. Common problem. I had your symptoms a few years back. Parked up in garage fine overnight with no issues. Following day couldn't select gears and was getting a grating in neutral from partial clutch engagement. Clutch pedal still felt normal.

Hello Folks,

Have the same black bits in my master cylinder but no leak yet so fingers crossed there is no scoring on the cylinder bore and I can get away with just replacing the seals.

On the link above, can somebody tell me which set of seals should I be ordering?
