Buying a new car (MINI)- How hard can it be?

Walked into a Mini dealer on Saturday morning and explained we needed a new Cooper for the mother in law. She wanted a silver one with black roof and had a part ex but it was not the end of the world if her 10 year old Beetle with 11k and fsh was not taken.
Salesman was a complete cock and spent the next 20mins talking about various colours/specs..... DOH the clue was a silver one with black roof !
Finally dozy f
k scurry's off to get a price and comes back with 'you can't have the black roof'. Fair enough, all silver then lets get this show on the road !!
20mins later (I have no idea where he has been or what he has been doing) he starts talking with food in his mouth (a burger, I guess from the onion breath) and suggests that the beetle is worth 2,200. As we have already said this sale is not dependent on the part ex but £2200 is a piss take. So we tell him not to worry about that and give us a price.
Much tapping at the screen and soon we have a price of £18k plus. No probs but take that £290 of supaguard off please as we don't want it. He then spends fk knows how long telling us it is great. Does he not have ears? Just take it off the price as we don't want it !
Finally we hit £18,365 for the spec of car we came for minus the black roof and mirrors. So we suggest that for £18k and no part ex we will give him all the money now. He has to chat to his imaginary manager? The answer, we can't do that but maybe throw in the fking uselesss, WE DON'T WANT IT SUPAGURARD and another 200 quid for the Beetle (which he has already undervalued by a fking mile)
We tell him he has our number and for the sake of £365 he can have a cheque right now or anytime later if he gives us a call.
Sometime later I phone the other Mini dealer in the nearby town and ask if he is interested in selling a car.
Jesus Christ the phone call lasted less than 5 mins and he had a credit card deposit within 10mins. Not only that but it will have a black roof and mirrors and he wants the Beetle. (at a realistic i.e. not pisstaking price)
How hard is it to buy a car these days?

You offered him £365 under list on an 18k common-as-muck car and he let you walk out?!

Agreed. I would actually love to work for a Mini dealership. You;d think that if someone walked into your dealer, knowing specifically what they wanted, you'd deal with them quick as possible, to start signing contracts/exchanging money. It's only the clueless kind, that are star struck and want something pretty, where you nurture them, and spend time, in order to rope out as much money as u can from them.

I bought my ISF last september in 3 phone calls and lets just say Lexus know how to do a deal in 10 mins or less.....
