Chipsaway - any good ?

Anyone used one the Chipsaway Franchises for stone chip repairs on a TVR ? Any good are they ?

My local one has done a top job on my black griff, however have seen posts about other franchises that haven't been so good... I live in Oxford BTW

Can be very variable - I've seen (when I was managing fleets of 100 - 150 vehicles) astonishingly good results from some francisees and some almighty balls-ups that required a trip to the bodyshop to correct from others. On the whole they are pretty good, though you have to bear in mind they will never be a perfect finish. I personally didn't trust them with my Griff - when scrotes tried to nick the front badge, and some numpty scratched the o/s/f corner, I went to a bodyshop for a perfect finish.

How large and more importantly where is the damage? SMART repairers will tell you that certain areas of any car are easier than others, mainly because of the curves and the way light reflects off different surfaces.

If it's all low down at the frontal area or the mirrors, it shouldn't be too bad. Anywhere such as the upper surfaces of the front panel, the bonnet or the sides of the car will be much harder to get a decent level of finish on, unless the guy is exceptional.

Have a search on the forums - you'll find many varied comments. As has already been said some v good, some v bad...

Personally after having used them on one car I'm now looking for a professional bodyshop

Only use if the franchisee can put you in touch with happy users with similar paint. My wifes silver Punto is on its third attempt to correct the cr4p job done. Still not happy and would definitely not recommend my local one for metallic cars. Especially with cars such as my Cerbs Crimson Starmist multi layer paint, the best they can do is match the tone of the base coat, as they are unable to recreate the twin layers.

Some scrote put a big scratch down Neil's ( Chim 450's) Tuscan a few weeks back.

Chipsaway did the job, perfect finish, you could not tell, but I believe it cost around £200 though

As Wacky Racer said, my local chipsaway guy did a perfect job getting rid of a big scratch on my crystal topaz Tuscan.

It took about 8 hours to complete the job. He was incredibly meticulous, lucky for me.

It did cost £200, but as I say 8 hours work. Damn site cheaper than a respray.

Dont just presume that chipsaway will be cheaper than a proper bodyshop job either. I have two scratches on my griff's rear wing, aprox chipsaway quote (from pictures) was £200. Compare this to the cost of complete rear wing respray from The TVR Bodyshop at £175 (plus VAT and depends on paint type). Both similar prices but I'd rather have TVR bodyshop do the work! All depends where the damage is of course, but worth bearing in mind.
