I have a 3 year old Cerbera Viper Blue - only owned it a couple of months and have noticed that the colour seems to be fading in some areas. I know the pearl colours are prone to fading, but does anyone have experience of Viper Blue?

I was once told that blue pigment is rather prone to fading. Not sure how true this is but I've had first hand experience of paint fading with 2 cars - both blue! Never had the problem with any other car.

Andrew hope the Tamora is still going well.

My GTS Viper Tuscan doesn't seem to show the chips and doesn't seem to chip that badly. Haven't noticed any fade, but I do keep it reasonably polished for an everyday car.

Thanks guys,
Do you think that Waxing would help to disguise this?

A good but gentle cutting compound, something like G11 followed by a good wax may help restore it to its former glory. Avoid anything harsh like T-Cut like the plague.

I believe AutoGlym do a polish that has a paint restorer in it, this may also help as opposed to going the cut and polish route.

Matt.

My viper blue Cerbera went back to the factory as the paintwork became very patchy after about 5 or 6 months. The doors, boot and roof looked dreadful in certain lights. The dealer suggested that there was insufficient base coat and it took tvr 6 weeks to sort out but this was done under warranty and looked fine afterwards. Viper blue aside i have noticed similar problems with other colours, particularly on Cerbera doors.

I have used Autoglyms paint restorer, but you have to be bloody careful. To be honest its more like a liquid sandpaper! I used it to take away some really serious scratches to the back bumper of my old peice of S$%t nissan. Did work a treat though Dunno if I'd want to use it on a TVR though.

When this happened to me a few years back, I tried using paint restorers but to be honest although using these and then waxing brought out the shine again, it only helped to disguise the colour fading in the short term rather than correct it. If anything, the paint restorers I used made it worse (sorry, can't remember which ones but I tried at least 2 or 3 brands).

What I did find helped to a limited extent was the use of the coloured waxes though these are limited to a small number of colours - I think they're all non-metallic. You may be able to use one of these to delay the expense of a respray????

If you know of a paint shop you trust, perhaps also get their opinion on other courses of action.

I've got a 2 year old Chim 500 in Viper with not the slightest sign of patchiness or fade (so far!) so it's not apparently across the board.

My Sep 2000 GTS Blue Tuscan looks fine.

All of this is rather ironic as I was discussing paint fade with reference to my former Rosso Pearl Griff the other day. Maybe they all fade?
