Why must the Impreza look so ugly?

My username aside, I used to really admire the first shape Imprezas (the first gen, before the bugeye etc). They had a timeless look, screamed "get out of my way!", sounded good, etc (some of these things haven't changed).

BUT now, the classic Impreza is a hatchback! Since when was a proper performance car a hatchback? Ok the Toyota Supra was, but not a blatent one, and it generally looked good. Now when I look at the front of the Impreza, it looks like it has a moustache. It's a real shame as the 50k model looks impressive, stats wise (the one above the WRX STi).

Why did Subaru have to ruin the car? Is there any evidence of a negative impact on sales?

There is certainly a lack of them on the roads, and they seem pricey too especially with the cheap interior.
I have actually seen an STI on the road and thought it looked pretty good actually.
My minds not made up about them yet.

I guess they tried to move away from the image you talk about, to a more a normal family friendly one. Unfortunately they fked up big style and made something that looks completely st.

as a hatchback owner having owned a p1 and tsl modded 03 uk sti hatch is better made easier to live with still ugly but much better with sti kit on and in white does look good and just to really annoy mine is a remapped diesel..

if its of any consolation, i think they're bringing the four door saloon variant here next year.
